ASCEND: Under one of President Holloway’s strategic launchpads for UToledo’s future, “Advantage Toledo,” this initiative ensures every undergraduate student gains experiential learning opportunities.

A convention dedicated to gaming that is held annually on UToledo’s campus.
Battle of I-75: The longstanding sports rivalry game between UToledo and BGSU.
Big Event: An annual event where students give back to the surrounding community through a full day of service projects.
Blue Crew: A masked group of 10 students whose primary function is to make the campus a livelier place.
Blue Key: This prestigious society represents 13 of the top student leaders at UToledo. They plan two of UToledo’s oldest annual traditions — the Homecoming Parade and Songfest.

CAP: Campus Activities & Programming. This organization creates fun events on campus all year long.
Carlson Library: One of the most lively places to study on campus.
Collegian, The: UToledo’s student newspaper.
Co-op: Like a paid internship built into students’ program of study. Common for engineering majors.
CORQ: Campus app to find info on all campus events.

Dining Dollars: Spending dollars part of your meal plan connected to your Rocket ID card that you can use to purchase food at on-campus restaurants.
Dorothy and Georgianna Saloff Welcome Center: This new building is a centralized hub for student support services for both current and prospective students.
Douglas Road Bridge: New walking bridge over Douglas Road that connects the main campus with the engineering campus.

Eatery, The: The dining hall situated at the student union.
Engineering Campus: The smaller peripheral campus across Douglas Road from the main campus where academic buildings are exclusively for engineering majors.

Flatlands, The: Greenspace where the Welcome Weeks bonfire is held, and where you can find the Spirit Rock and hammock poles.
Frogtown Cafe: On-campus coffee shop inside the Student Union. Fun fact: The name pays homage to the City of Toledo’s historical nickname.

Gateway Plaza: Shopping center on the corner of Dorr Street and Secor Road where you can find restaurants, a coffee shop, a Barnes & Noble bookstore and the Lofts apartments.
Glass Bowl Stadium: Named as a tribute to Toledo being the “Glass City.” Football games in the stadium draw thousands of people to campus.

Health Science Campus: Located a 10-minute drive from Main Campus on the campus of the University of Toledo Medical Center where health profession majors take courses and labs.
Holloway, James: UToledo’s current president.
Honors Academic Village: On-campus apartments exclusively for Honors College students.
I
Intramurals: Form teams to compete in various sports tournaments.
ISA: The International Students Association serves as an umbrella group for over 250 cultural organizations. Their I-Village dinner event every fall and I-Dinner event every spring are worth attending.

K Parking Permit: Opt for this option if you are a commuting freshman.

Law Center: Has a nice library to study in. Technically for Law students, but we all try to get in.
LEC: The Learning Enhancement Center within the Carlson Library is where you can go for free tutoring in multiple subjects.

Morse Center: UToledo’s other rec center at the Health Science Campus that no one knows about.
Mulford Library: Great place to study on the Health Science Campus.

Nitschke Hall: Building made of blue-tinted glass on the engineering campus and named after Norm Nitschke, a local engineer and inventor of safety glass.
Nitschke Technology Commercialization Complex: A major facility on the engineering campus used for research and home to UToledo’s Business Incubator.

OSEC: The Office of Student Engagement and Connections manages all student organizations.
Ottawa River: The large river that cuts Main Campus in half.
P
ParkUToledo: A notorious patrol unit. If you park incorrectly, you will get ticketed.
Phoenicia: A family-owned Mediterranean restaurant located in Rocky’s Attic in the Student Union.
Q
Quadrangle: The outdoor courtyard in front of Nitschke Hall on the engineering campus.
[Rocket] Q: The digital waiting line you can opt into instead of standing in line at Rocket Solution Central when you have a question about financial aid or your student account.

Ritter Planetarium: If you love learning about space, check out one of their shows as part of their weekly programming.
Rocket Nation: The collective term for UToledo students, alumni and fans.
RockeTHON: An annual philanthropic event where students dance all day to raise funds for Nationwide Children’s Hospital – Toledo.
Rocky & Rocksy: UToledo’s official mascots. Rocky was born Oct. 20, 1966 to spread school spirit, while Rocksy came later in 2011. You’ll see them at major sporting and campus events.
Rocket Fuel: On-campus student food pantry resource located in the Student Union on Main Campus and in the Health Education Building on the Health Science Campus.
Rocky’s Attic: A lounge space on the fourth floor of the Student Union. It’s also the home to Phoenicia Cuisine, an on-campus Mediterranean restaurant.

Social House: A new dining spot on campus located in Ottawa East.
Songfest: An annual philanthropic event where student organizations — primarily fraternities and sororities — compete in high-energy song and dance routines to raise money for charities.
Stepping on the Seal: A campus superstition. Legend says that if you step on the University seal at Centennial Mall, you will fail your next exam. Watch your step!
Student Involvement Fair: A bi-annual event hosted by the Office of Student Engagement and Connections. It connects students with over 350 student organizations, sororities and fraternities, campus departments and local community groups.
Supplemental Instruction (SI): Free, peer-led study groups designed to help students succeed in academically demanding or historically difficult courses.
Spirit Rock: Massive boulder in the Flatlands that students can spray paint under the cover of night.
T
TARTA: Local public transit organization that has bus loops that connect students on campus to Walmart and other places across town. Ride for free by presenting a valid Rocket ID card.
TransLoc: A live feed for checking UToledo’s buses and routes.
U
University Hall: The first and most iconic building on Main Campus.
University Health Center: The student medical center on Main Campus.
University/Parks Trail: A multi-use trail that starts on campus and goes about 7 miles westward. You can walk, run, bike and rollerblade on this trail.
UT Alert: The campus-wide emergency system. Check these alerts during heavy Ohio winter storms to see if classes are canceled.
UTMC: The University of Toledo Medical Center, the hospital system that partners in educating health profession majors.

Veo scooters: Electric scooters available to rent around campus.

Welcome Weeks: The first few weeks of the fall semester, filled with activities and programming geared towards new freshmen.
WXUT: UToledo’s radio broadcast station.

X-ing: Trains do occasionally pass through campus via the train tracks north of Ottawa East. Be sure to look before you cross!

Yell (the UToledo chant): When someone shouts “T-O-L!” you are obligated to scream back “E-D-O!”
