Dare to Dream With Us: The Power of a Shared Dream for Music

Juice House’s upcoming Singing Blend concert, will close off the fall 2025 semester with the theme “Dare to Dream with Us.” As part of Juice House’s many blends, it is now on its fourth major concert since its inception in fall 2023. This concert is more than just a choral performance, but also an expression of hope, connection and passion for a healthy ecology for students and community members.

“Hey, everybody can sing,” Rebekah Chang, conductor of the Juice House Singing Blend, said. “Our focus is not just on learning music, [but] on building relationships with one another. The environment in our community … can foster music through … real human interaction.”

The four choral sections of Singing Blend — soprano, alto, tenor and bass — prepare together for a semester before each concert. Usually held at the end of each semester, the concerts are open to the entire campus and community.

This concert’s theme, “Dare to Dream With Us,” reflects Juice House’s slogan of “Dare to Live Well” with an invitation to be bold to dream and aim high. The night will kick off with performances of songs like “The Impossible Dream” from “The Quest” and “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman,” along with other songs such as “Go the Distance,” “Flight Song,” “You Raise Me Up” and “Both Sides Now,” a piece that will be performed in American Sign Language.

“Let’s all dream for a better future together,” Chang said. “Through our singing, we’re able to really bring some elements of a dream to the audience; hopefully … after the concert they are positive and they are energized, and they can be strengthened and encouraged. This is my hope.”

“It’s a very hopeful theme,” tenor singer and applied physics major, Kartik Nair, said. “Even while singing, it does give rise to hope inside of you, and it’s a very positive experience.”

According to Chang, Singing Blend is not just for those who have prior experience — it’s for anyone who has a passion for singing and being part of a community.

“I am very privileged that Singing Blend can provide a certain kind of environment to enhance their learning, their life experiences, and I feel very honored that I can be part of each student’s life,” Chang said.

Beyond their semesterly concerts, Singing Blend participates in various performances throughout the year. The spring 2025 semester alone began with a notable invitation by the Toledo Lucas County Main Library downtown to perform the national anthem and “America the Beautiful” at a naturalization ceremony for new U.S. citizens. The semester also featured a major collaboration with UToledo’s University Chorus and Chamber Singers for a combined, multicultural concert. This event, titled “Crossing the Pacific,”  showcased music from diverse Asian countries.
