UToledo First-Year Student Enrollment Trends
The freshman class beginning in fall 2024 was the smallest cohort in the past eight years. Since 2016, enrollment of incoming freshmen declined by nearly half, from 3,380 students to 1,917.
Where Are They From?
The campus remains a strong regional anchor with 76% of students coming from Ohio and nearly 90% originating from the Midwest. Michigan comes in as the second-most home state of freshmen at 13%. The university also maintains a global footprint, with international enrollment making up 7% of the incoming class.

Academic Majors
From 2016 to 2024, enrollment trends demonstrate clear student preferences in their academic majors, with engineering, business management and biological sciences consistently attracting the largest shares of incoming first-time degree seekers compared to other discipline groups.
